Statements Agree Neutral Disagree Process I have started my post-residency transition planning. I feel overwhelmed as there is so much to do and not enough time to do it. I’ve never had to find a “real job” before - I don’t knowwhere to begin. Professional Support I have a solid network of mentors whom I can turn to for guidance. Personal Support My spouse/partner is engaged in the decision-making process as it relates to my post-residency transition planning. Overall I’m excited about job possibilities after residency - I can’t wait to get started with my transition planning! I am satisfied with my attitude toward this process. Transition Planning Tips: • To successfully transition from training into career takes time. Plan to spend three to four hours a week over the last three years of your training, especially during the initial job searching stages, for identifying the type of position (i employed vs. independent) you want to pursue. • A positive attitude is a must when it comes to a job search. If you view it as a chore or a hassle, this attitude will be translated into how you present yourself on paper and in person. • If you have a spouse or partner, it’s critical that they are part of your team and involved in the decision-making process. Your decisions impact their lives as much as yours. • Don’t think or work in a vacuum, because your post-residency planning decisions are some of the most important that you will face in your professional life!
